Vanity, Greed and Arrogance
Vanity, greed and arrogance have nothing to do with integrity. Vanity is too
bloated to see, greed too grasping to feel, and arrogance too overbearing to
learn much of anything. The reason that missions predicated on vanity, greed and
arrogance--and their stepchildren, power and revenge -- founder in the end is
that they decouple themselves from the source of their own creativity and
vitality.
It is instructive to watch how many unfortunate qualities constellate around
vanity, greed and arrogance. How closely can vanity listen, how quickly adjust?
That greedy man -- what expectations will he have, how hungry (needy) will he
get when he is not fed? And the arrogant person over there -- what joy can
arrogance take in simple and little things that are not as overweening as she?
As your integrity increases a bizarre thing can begin to happen. Whenever you
become vain, greedy and arrogant, the universe will swat you -- you will
forget something important, you may make a serious error or some plan will miscarry
-- and the feedback will be instantaneous and terrifying. You see, there is a
price for being connected.
