In Japanese it is called "mushin," -- no mind/empty mind. You are the spectator, by the great stream. A wave rises, it is noticed. Your opponent moves, no mind follows. The hundreds things -- the dark-winged messengers of your psyche entice you -- pulses of light transport you -- you do not resist because nothing is in the way. Simply you are here, observing mind, and things are as they are. (See also Self Watching Self).
Empty Mind: Five times this week you let your opponent write on the blank slate of your mind and what you discovered.
First practice in simple ways so you get the feel of empty mind. Then bring your practice into fierce encounters. If the universe roars, let it roar. Become the dragon watching from the pools.
Empty mind is the foundation of all tactics in the martial arts.
