What is Artful Navigator?

Artful Navigator is a unique computer program from Logos Networks Corporation. It automates The Five Rings^(tm) methodology to help you improve your decision making and negotiation skills. The program leads you through any negotiation process, recording your important decisions and valuable discoveries. By tracking the interplay of "moves," Artful Navigator helps you maintain focus even in the most complex and difficult negotiations.

Using Artful Navigator, you can:

• Analyze the flow of decisions
• Predict the moves of other players or of your opponents
• Get coaching on your strengths and weaknesses
• Track your expenditures of time, effort, money, and creative vitality

Artful Navigator can be used on an individual basis or in networked teams.

Put the Tools of Artful Navigator to Work for You

Artful Navigator offers powerful tools to improve your negotiating and decision making skills providing you with a way to navigate through the most difficult situations. From Artful Navigator’s Main Menu, you can select the mode or tool you want to use.

Define Your Missions and Set Budgets for Them

Using Artful Navigator's Mission Builder mode, you can:

• Set budgets for the four categories of your Life Pie: Professional, Personal, Physical, and Spiritual
• Create new categories and subcategories under your Life Pie quadrants
• Define missions and set budgets for them

Practice and Track Your Integrity Skills

Artful Navigator's Weekly Log mode provides a way of organizing your practice of integrity at a comfortable pace. The practice of integrity involves tracking your thoughts, actions, and behavior. You use this mode to create a Weekly Log that includes:

• Your overall mission for the week
• Your Professional, Personal, Physical, and Spiritual goals for the week
• An integrity category (i.e., move, action, behavior) you want to practice

As you move through the week, you can return to the Weekly Log to track your progress and record your discoveries, insights, and instances where you pass the benefits of an encounter or negotiation on to someone else.

Advance Your Missions Using The Five Rings

The "navigation system" embodied in Artful Navigator is called The Five Rings^(tm). The system includes intelligent and wise decision making, character enhancement, and effective negotiation. The method can help you advance any valid mission profitability, effectively, and with integrity. Each ring represents a phase of the negotiation, and contains specific "moves" or actions appropriate during that phase.

Once you have defined a mission and its budget and are about to begin a negotiation related to that mission, you are ready to use The Five Rings mode. As you progress through The Five Rings, Artful Navigator creates an Action Log for the negotiation. The Action Log is a record of your decisions, actions, and behavior. When you "link" the negotiation to a mission in The Five Rings, Artful Navigator attaches the negotiation and its Action Log to that mission. Likewise, when you record the amount of budget you've expended on a negotiation, Artful Navigator "posts" those expenditures to the budget for the linked mission. You can link any number of negotiations to a mission, and view the aggregated budget expenditures for a mission.

Get Coaching on Your Strengths and Weaknesses

Artful Navigator’s Personal Coach mode offers you a powerful means of practicing the fundamentals and getting coaching on your strengths and weaknesses. It provides personalized coaching from a variety of masters including Shakespeare, Lincoln, Mark Twain, and Churchill. At any time, you can use the Personal Coach mode to:

• Solve “integrity puzzles” to increase your integrity skills
• Have Artful Navigator calculate your Integrity Scores based on previous negotiations
• Get coaching on your strengths and weaknesses
• Get advice from the Masters and Coaches on integrity categories

Learn from Artful Navigator’s Role Models

Another powerful tool available in Artful Navigator is the Role Models mode. At any time during a negotiation or during your practice of integrity, you can increase your learning and effectiveness by reviewing what a role model has done in a particular situation. You can select role models from several categories or disciplines, such as International Negotiation, Project Management, Re-engineering, and Alternative Dispute Settlement.

Hardware and Software Requirements

To run Artful Navigator version 2.0, you need the following hardware and software:

• Pentium 90 or higher or 100% compatible computer with a minimum of 16 MB of RAM
• VGA monitor, SVGA monitor, or better
• Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, or Windows 2000
• Hard disk with at least 10 MB of free disk space
• Printer supported by Windows
