Using Artful Navigator's Onscreen Help

Welcome to Artful Navigator, a unique computer program from Logos Networks Corporation.

Artful Navigator automates The Five Rings methodology to help you improve your decision making and negotiation skills. The program leads you through the negotiation process, recording your important decisions and valuable discoveries. Using Artful Navigator, you can analyze the flow of decisions, identify your strengths and weaknesses, predict the moves of other players, and track your time, effort, money, and creative vitality.

Artful Navigator can be used on an individual basis or in networked teams.

This chapter explains what you need to run Artful Navigator, how to install and configure the program, basic steps for getting started, and how to get onscreen Help.

Installing Artful Navigator

Artful Navigator comes with three 3.5" install disks. Make sure you have all three disks before beginning the install procedure.

Note: If you are also installing LogosNet, you must install Artful Navigator before installing LogosNet. (See Appendix B for instructions on installing LogosNet.)

To install Artful Navigator

1. Insert Disk 1 in drive A.

2. From the File menu of the Windows Program Manager, select Run.

3. In the Command Line of the Run window, type A:INSTALL Then Click OK.

The Select Destination Directory window appears. By default, the install program will create a subdirectory of LOGOS on drive C.

4. If you want to install the program on a drive other than C, select the drive you want. Do not change the name of the LOGOS subdirectory. Click OK.

The program will tell you when to insert Disks 2 and 3. After reading Disk 3, the Select Program Manager Group window appears.

5. If you want Artful Navigator in a program group other than LOGOS, select the group you want to put it in. Click OK.

This will install Artful Navigator on your C drive (or the drive you specified), and create a program group named LOGOS (unless you selected a different program group).

6. Open the LOGOS program group.

7. When the LOGOS window appears, double click the Read Me! icon to see configuration instructions. Follow the instructions in the Read Me file or in "Configuring Artful Navigator" below.

Configuring Artful Navigator

To configure your copy of Artful Navigator

The License Agreement window appears.

2. Type in your first and last name. Click OK.

The Backup Original Databases window appears.

If your Artful Navigator databases get corrupted and you want to start up with the original databases, you can copy the ORIGINAL subdirectory without having to re-install the program. We recommend you do this if you have enough free disk space (10 megabytes are required).

3. Click Backup to copy the databases to the ORIGINAL subdirectory.

The Configuration Utility window appears.

4. In the Your User ID box, type in your last name, then first name.

5. In the Nick Name box, enter the nick name you want Artful Navigator to use when it addresses you.

6. If your computer has a sound card (e.g., SoundBlaster) and you want to activate it for Artful Navigator, click the Sound box.

7. If you have the multi-user version of Artful Navigator: In the Network Drive box, enter the drive letter for your network, followed by a colon (e.g., D:). Check with your network administrator if you don't know the drive letter.

8. Click More to continue with the configuration.

The More window displays the disk and directory where your Artful Navigator files will be stored, and asks you pick a level of coaching.

9. In the Viewing Level for Coaching box, select Basic for now. Later, as your skills increase, you may want to change the setting to Intermediate or Advanced.

10. Click OK to return to the first configuration window. Then click OK to save your configuration settings.

The program returns to the LOGOS window.

Using Artful Navigator's Onscreen Help

Extensive onscreen Help is available to assist you in learning and using Artful Navigator. The Help files provide tutorials on the methodology as well as "how to" instructions for using the software.

Many of the Help files contain hypertext links to other files, as well as "pop-up" definitions of terms. A green solid underlined term or phrase in the text of a Help file indicates a link to that topic. A green dotted underlined term or phrase indicates a pop-up definition is available for that term. When you move the mouse over the term, the cursor turns into a little hand. You can then click the term to move to that topic or to display its definition.

When you move to another Help topic, you can return to the previous topic by clicking the Back button in the toolbar. If you want to get out of Help and return to the program, open the File menu and select Exit.

If you haven’t used programs with onscreen Help before, you might want to take a look at the detailed instructions available for using the Help system. When in a Help file, open the Help menu and select How to Use Help.
