About Logos Networks Corporation and The Five Rings(tm)

The Five Rings methodology derives primarily from the work of Julian Gresser, international lawyer, negotiator, author, and Japan specialist. During the past 25 years Mr. Gresser has observed time and again how Western negotiators, who have sought "win-win" solutions by avoiding conflict, have been outmaneuvered, taken advantage of, and ultimately defeated by Japanese business and government teams employing "slash and burn/take no prisoners" tactics. These tactics were only neutralized when a player was able to prevail in the inner "negotiation" with his/her own fears, greed, and insecurity. In almost every case, the Western players' ineffectiveness, not the tactics of the Japanese teams, sowed the seeds of defeat.

By testing and confirming the validity of these observations in some of the most complex negotiations to be found anywhere in the world, Mr. Gresser was able to develop a novel approach to negotiation of broad and general application.

In July 1994, Mr. Gresser established Logos Networks Corporation with Tod Brannan, an expert software designer and engineer, with the idea of developing new tools of personalized interactive training in the principles of The Five Rings.
